Cursive writing is making a comeback. Districts throughout the state of Texas are preparing to embrace this change.
Cursive writing, while thought to be a thing of the past is returning to schools in Texas this Fall. This require was updated to Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in 2017. It will go into effect the 2019-2020 school year for students entering 2nd grade and will have to be at mastery prior to entering 5th grade.
In the age of computers, smartphones and interactive smart-boards, a portion of most schools‘ curriculum are online. The students of these generations are more adept to this approach to learning.
There are some that may wonder the effectiveness of these changes. The intent is for students to become more proficient in oral express and comprehensive and reflective writing. Some parents are excited about the changes. What are your thoughts?
